I wanted to call your attention to the special events offered at the William M. Staerkel Planetarium at Parkland College as a celebration of 20 years of bringing the stars down to Earth. All of the events are listed here:

Of special note . . . .our "Cosmic Celebration" gala is Thursday evening from 5-7:30pm in the planetarium archway and lobby. Classic events will provide food and drink as you enjoy the live music of Lamonte Parsons. At 5:45 and 6:45 we'll show a sneak preview of our newest original show "Universary" in the dome followed by a look at the future of the planetarium. Tickets are $30 per person with the proceeds going to support the planetarium's full-dome immersive video upgrade. And you can get tickets at the door!

Dr. Brian Fields, from the University of Illinois Department of Astronomy, will be here Friday at 7pm for the first talk in our "World of Science" lecture series. Dr. Fields will be discussing cosmology, specifically the odd concepts of dark matter and dark energy. Admission is $1 at the door.

Sunday brings shuttle astronaut and Danville native Joe Tanner to the Parkland College Theatre, adjacent to the planetarium, for a 7pm public talk on his last flight and the future of space exploration. Admission is $2 at the door.

Please join us in celebrating 20 years!

Dave Leake
